One of BYUs most enjoyable traditions is Hike & Light the Y. Since 1924, hundreds of students and alumni alike have participated in lighting the Y every BYU Homecoming. In 2016, the Y and trail were renovated, and new permanent lighting was installed. Cosmo and other BYU VIPs join in fun and hike alongside the students. After the hike, participants can enjoy hot cocoa and donuts.

Free shuttle service is available from the Hinckley Center to the trailhead. The hike is moderate difficulty, and hikers should be prepared with proper shoes, water, and a flashlight.
